Try, Try Again

After I got this group finished and headed to Ebay tonight . . .

I decided to take a shot at making some nodders but couldn't decide how to proceed. After thumbing through some of my patterns, I decided to adapt an ornament technique that has a one-piece, needle-sculpted torso/limbs and clothing that is painted on. Then I thought hmmm . . . I better make the arms separate so they can hold an accessory. And hmmm . . . maybe painted on clothing isn't such a good idea because I certainly can't "paint-on" a tutu can I? Okay, so I'll sculpt the torso and add clothing. My first attempt didn't get past the base and armature ~ it toppled over even without the head. So I added some weight to the base and added the torso/leg piece, sculpted it and got this . . .

I liked it ~ but didn't LOVE it. It doesn't look delicate enough. Maybe if I add the head. So I put the head on and get this . . .

Nope. Now I'm convinced. It doesn't look "boney" to me. So I take it apart. I hate doing this, but ya' gotta' do what ya' gotta' do . . .

So after modifying the pattern to include itty bitty rib bones and separate little legs, I reattach the head and get this . . .

Now I LOVE it. She still needs a pair of arms, some paint and of course a tutu.
And with "Skellie Month" coming to a close, this little Ballerina will only have a couple of friends and then onto the Halloween pieces. Yippee!

Your work amazes me, I wish I could do work like that.
I could try, but don't think I could do what you do, I tend to get lazy and could never have the patience to do the details you do.
