Tuesday's Display Chain

Misi, at 1890 Gable House Musings, picked a great theme for this week: "In The Closet . . . Obsession". It will be fun to see what everyone posts.

Button, Button, Who's Got The Button?

My obsession started innocently enough . . . I started a collection of buttons for my sewing projects. Then, I kept stumbling upon jars of them at flea markets. The older ones are so interesting. I could not resist them. And ya' never know what kind of button ya' might need for a project . . . maybe a fancy one, or a metal one, or maybe some simple vintage whites. So I figured I better be safe than sorry. For quite some time, I hid my growing stash . . . not wanting to admit how many there really are (well over 20,000 at this point). Smuggling them into the house . . . not wanting to discuss that I had weakened once again. But they're just so darn pretty! And they deserve to be out in the sunlight! So, I no longer try to resist their charm and have completely succumbed to this obsession. Several jars reside outside the closet now. And many, many more are tucked away into sewing boxes, dresser drawers, the linen closet and everywhere else you might be in need of a button!

I too have alot of buttons, not near as many as you!!!! I use alot doing crafts... The problem I have is, when you have alot, trying to match up 2 can be a task.. I need to someday, that the time and do a little sorting..

I found a jar full of buttons at a church sale. I enjoyed going through each button...wondering about the clothing it was once attached to...buttons can tell stories ..I am sure.
You have such a wonderful collection. Beautiful jars too!
Thanks for sharing along.

Love your button jars. I found a huge repro mason jar at the home store and am using that, but wish I could find smaller reroductions with the rusty lids.

If you have a jo anns, you can find the wash away papers on a rack near the cutting section. That is where ours is. Not sure if they have this one, maybe it is an old one, but most stores have them.

You are not alone there! Buttons just add a little bit of charm to projects. Each one so unique. Love your collection.

I passed on a jar of buttons at a flea market in Amish country, thinking that $12 was too much, but then my in-laws went back a few weeks later and found me another jar. I couldn't say no! I only have 2 jars (well, I have some divided up by color in little spice jars, but they don't count! lol!) so I have a little bit of catching up to do.
